How many sessions do I need for acne scars? ↓

Most patients require 4–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for meaningful scar improvement. Results continue improving for several months after the final session as new collagen matures. Scar depth and type affects the number of sessions — Dr Mavis Pak will assess this at consultation.

Is RF microneedling safe for darker Asian skin tones? ↓

Yes — it is one of the preferred treatments for darker skin tones precisely because the insulated needles deliver RF energy below the epidermis, avoiding the surface heating that causes post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with traditional laser resurfacing. The Secret DUO is safe for Fitzpatrick types I–VI.

Is it painful? ↓

Topical numbing cream is applied before treatment. Most patients describe mild pressure and warmth during the procedure. The treatment is well-tolerated by the majority of patients.

How does it compare to traditional microneedling? ↓

Traditional microneedling creates micro-injuries to stimulate collagen but delivers no energy. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy at the needle tip — dramatically increasing the collagen-stimulating signal and allowing greater depths. The clinical evidence for RF microneedling for acne scars is significantly stronger than for traditional microneedling alone.

Can RF microneedling be combined with other treatments? ↓

How long do the results last? ↓

The collagen produced is permanent — new collagen is not rapidly reabsorbed. Results typically last 1–2 years before a maintenance session is beneficial. The underlying ageing process continues, so periodic maintenance helps sustain results over time.

Is there any preparation needed before treatment? ↓

Avoid retinoids and active skincare ingredients for 3–5 days before treatment. Sun avoidance and SPF are important in the weeks before and after.
